The WildlifeRescue app ("the app", "we") is a community network for rescuing wildlife. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and with whom it is shared. By using the app you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
- Animal reports: a photo of the animal, the report's GPS location, a free-text note, and the reporter's contact details — name and phone number (required so a volunteer or dispatcher can call you back about the rescue).
- Volunteer sign-up: name and phone number (verified via a one-time SMS code), and device location (to show and alert you to rescues near you).
- Hospitals / rehab centers: sign in using an access code issued by the system operator.
- Push token: a technical device identifier used to send relevant notifications (a nearby rescue, status updates).
2. How we use the information
- To connect a report of an animal in distress with nearby volunteers and wildlife hospitals.
- To automatically identify the animal's species from the photo (using AI) and flag whether it is a protected species.
- To send notifications and coordinate the rescue relay (capture, transport, hospital intake).
- To verify volunteers' phone numbers via an SMS code.
- To enable phone contact between the parties involved in a specific rescue.
3. Sharing with third parties
We do not sell personal information. We use the following service providers solely to operate the app:
- Anthropic (Claude): the animal photo is sent for AI-based species identification.
- Pulseem: sending SMS messages for phone verification.
- Expo: push notification delivery service.
- Apple Maps / Google Maps: displaying maps and locations.
- Our hosting server, where app data is stored.
Information may also be disclosed if required by law or to protect rights and safety.
4. Sharing between users
To coordinate a rescue, report details (species, photo, general location, and in some cases the reporter's name and phone) are shown to volunteers and parties assigned to that rescue. Please share only information needed for the rescue.
5. Data retention and security
We retain information for as long as needed to operate the service, and take reasonable measures to protect it (encrypted HTTPS connections, restricted access). SMS verification codes are deleted after a short time.
6. Your rights
You may request to access, correct, or delete your personal information. A volunteer can sign out of the app at any time. For requests, contact us at the address below.
7. Children
The app is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. An updated version will be posted on this page with a new update date.
